The meeting began with the pledge of allegiance by Tom Guldi, Sargent, and a beautiful prayer by Maria Kemp, Greeter. Aleksandra Kardwell won the 50-50 but did not pull the winning card. Tom Guldi entertained us with a litancy of literary play on words.
In response to the recent drowning of a six year old child, Tim Corwin read his presentation to the Town Trustees about providing emergency life rings and jackets. He noted that the Sebonac Inlet is the most dangerous for swimmers. There signage is in English only. Tim noted that for $6900 we (Rotary or Town with Rotary) could purchase 246 life jackets that are Coast Guard approved to be placed at various locations for the next season (May/June - September/October). The jackets would be stored by the Marine Patrol.
Event updates were provided by Brian Leiser who asked that volunteers for the Baseball game be at the Southampton High School baseball fields by 4pm next Wednesday afternoon, 7/22, to help set up the tables and food. The game will start at 5pm, and Brian is picking up the sandwiches. Beau Hulse confirmed that we should be at the Fresh Air Home at 10:30 am on July 23rd. in lieu of our regular meeting.
The speaker this week was Carolyn Villegas of ECLI-Vibes, formerly the Victims Information Bureau of Suffolk. This organization is dedicated to crisis counseling, advocacy services, a 24/7 "hopeline", and its SAFE program - all to provide help and resources to victims of domestic violence and abuse and sex trafficking. For our next meeting, Paul Cassella will be the greeter and will say the prayer and The Southampton Playhouse and Joy Pak will be at the registration desk.
